EU concerned over ID card confusion for travel to the UK
Confusion over new government rules for ID cards and passports is fuelling concerns with the EU that their citizens may not be authorised to fly to the UK. Effective from 1 October, EU citizens who do not have the post-Brexit right to live in the UK will not be able to use EU, EEA or Swiss national ID cards to enter.
It means that EU citizens not officially settled in the UK arriving for short visits will be required to show a passport due to the new post-Brexit immigration rules. EU nationals who have settled in the UK can still use their ID cards until 2025.
The concern is because the UK hasn’t issued official residency documents for EU citizens living in the UK since the Brexit change.
