Eurotunnel passenger shuttle revenue down
Eurotunnel has reported a decline in passenger shuttle revenue during the third quarter due to “strong price competition”.
The Channel Tunnel operator, reporting overall third quarter sales up by 1% to £140.8 million year-on-year, said shuttle revenue was up 1% in the period to £77.9 million. It did not break down the split between freight and passenger sales.
The shuttle handled 609,357 cars and motorcycles in the three months while the number of coaches rose to 19,443.
The company has reduced passenger shuttle service capacity from September 3 in an effort to more closely match capacity with demand.
Reporting on the third quarter, Eurotunnel said: “Revenue declined from the passenger shuttle business although volumes increased notably in the coach market.
“Revenue from the passenger business continued to be affected by strong price competition.”
Meanwhile, Eurotunnel reported a 2% drop in passengers using Eurostar high speed train services through the Channel Tunnel to 1.96 million.
