The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association has lauded its partnership with the Ports of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Despite still dealing with the aftermath of last year’s hurricanes, the relationship is ‘at an all-time high," says FCCA president Michele Paige.
"If you just look at what transpired during the hurricane, we were never wondering who to talk to. We always had the Commissioner and the Governor, they were always there, very accessible, and we never questioned what they said, because we had that confidence," she said.
The relationship between the trade group and the USVI dates back decades and has only gotten stronger since September’s storms, Paige said.
Paige’s comments came at the recent FCCA Operations Committee meeting, attended by USVI tourism stakeholders and colleagues from the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, St. Maarten and Puerto Rico, which convened to discuss hurricane preparedness best practices and lessons learned from the devastating storms.
"By working together to develop strategies to enhance the visitor experience in our destinations, we’re making sure we stay part of the highly sought-after Eastern Caribbean cruise itinerary," tourism commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty said.
