Festival trekking concert pulls the fans in
Multisensorial experience – walking, wildlife food and music – wonderful day out in UNESCO biosphere reserve
Happy Ravenna Festival concert goers took a breath of fresh air on a midsummer Sunday in the amazing local UNESCO biosphere reserve – the magnificently watery 54,000 hectares Po Delta Regional Park with its astonishing flora and fauna – including over 250 species of birds and great flocks of flamingos.
Trekking concertgoers made their way to the Bettolino di Foce – an ancient fishing lodge now transformed into a welcoming inn specializing in local products. Then they took a 7 km loop walk which passes the ancient saltworks where a red tower stands. Originally a foreign guard post, the Red Tower is now transformed into a great vantage point with panoramic views from the eel port of Comacchio to the sea, from salt pans to valleys.
Back at the starting point the concertgoers were treated to amazing views of flocks of flamingos. Now time for the delicious eels – the local delicacy – before the main event.
In the absolute silence broken only by the screeching of the seagulls, a blues concert begins featuring Don Antonio, guitar ; Roberto Villa, double bass; Franz Valtieri, saxophones and Vince Vallicelli on percussion.
Returning to the fascinating Bettolino di Foce, the day ended with a gastronomic moment of tradition in the belief that nothing like sublime food is able to communicate the area’s unique wealth of sensory experiences.
