Finnair launches new carbon offsetting scheme for customers

Finnair is inviting customers to offset their flight emissions with a new initiative combining sustainable aviation fuel and climate projects.
It allows Finnair customers to calculate their flights’ emissions and offset their journey by choosing a mix of the two.
Customers can access the platform, powered by Chooose, via finnair.com, where the pricing varies depending on how the contribution is shared between SAF and offsetting projects.
Eveliina Huurre, Finnair SVP Sustainability, said: “Both Finnair and our customers are keen to reduce the CO2 footprint of air travel and we want to offer our customers a simple and transparent way to do this.”
“Our service combines two important tools, offsets and SAF, which both are needed to reach carbon neutrality.”
Finnair’s previous offsetting scheme was discontinued in March 2020 due to Finnish legislation, but this has since been changed to allow companies to offer CO2 offsetting to consumers.
Finnair has ambitious targets to halve its emissions by the end of 2025 and reach carbon neutrality by the end of 2045.
