First gender ‘X’ US passport issued

The U.S. State Department issued the first ever official gender ‘X’ US passport.
According to State Department spokesperson Ned Price, the option will be available to all passport applicants who identify as nonbinary, intersex or gender-nonconforming when systems are fully updated in early-2022.
The department will announce via its website when the gender ‘X’ identifier will be available. The State Department said it would make the change this year following a legal challenge.
The US joins other countries that offer a third option besides ‘M’ and ‘F’ including Canada Australia, India, Malta, Nepal and New Zealand.
