First itineraries for mega ship Oasis unveiled

Wednesday, 26 Jun, 2008 0

The first sailings for the world’s largest cruise ship, the 5,400-passenger Oasis of the Seas, have been detailed.

The Royal Caribbean International mega ship will be based in Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and will make its maiden voyage on December 12, 2009.

The ship, which will feature a series of ‘neighbourhoods’, will run 19 seven-nigh eastern Caribbean sailings to St Thomas, St Maaten and the Bahamas.

From May 1, 2010, the vessel will also run a western Caribbean itinerary calling at the line’s private resort of Laberdee in Haiti, Falmouth in Jamaica and Cozumel in Mexico.

Approaches to the docks at St Thomas, St Maarten and Nassau will be dredged to accommodate the 220,000-tonne ship.

A new cruise pier will be developed in Jamaica together with associated infrastructure needed.

Passenger facilities at St Maarten will be improved and the pier at Cozumel is to be widened.

A pier will be built at Labadee and other attractions added to the beach destination.

Bookings for Oasis of the Seas are due to open on September 3 this year.
