The first lawsuit has been filed against Royal Caribbean claiming negligence after the Anthem of the Seas cruise ship sailed into the eye of a major storm earlier this month.
Passenger Bruce Simpson says he was flung across his cabin and knocked unconscious as the storm took hold, according to legal documents seen by CNN.
Simpson also alleges there were limited emergency services available to passengers.
The lawsuit states he was told to stay inside his cabin to ride out the storm before seeking any medical assistance.
The suit was filed in a Miami court last week and alleges the cruise line was negligent by allowing the ship to sail into the strong storm which was well forecast as potentially dangerous.
"They took a calculated risk when they sent their passengers into the storm, and we don’t think the passengers should be the ones that pay for Royal Caribbean’s lack of judgment," attorney Jason Itkin said in a statement.
Simpson said he had injuries to his face, torso and hands.
