First Luggage usage ‘doubles’ since security alerts
A firm which sends airline passengers’ bags direct to their destination has claimed a near doubling in business since the UK airport security alerts.
The average number of bags sent by First Luggage has risen from 150 to 280 a day, with the highest percentage on flights to and from the US where passengers face the tightest luggage restrictions.
The company says demand from people away on holiday has risen as they have read about the crisis at UK airports and booked to have their bags transported home.
The service allows bags to be collected from the passenger’s home the day before they fly and sent by courier to their destination. A text message is then sent to the owner to confirm the bag has arrived safely.
Costs start at £49 for a suitcase to be sent one-way to a destination in Europe, rising to £189 to Barbados.
