A man was killed and 12 others injured after being struck by lightning on Venice Beach, Los Angeles.
The 20-year-old was taken to hospital and pronounced dead after the freak accident on Sunday.
Nine others, including a 15-year-old boy, were also treated in hospital, with one person in a ‘critical’ condition.
Another man was struck on a golf course on Southern California’s Catalina Island.
The unusual weather comes from monsoon moisture that has brought thunderstorms, according to experts.
