Friendly Planet Travel acquires insightCuba
Tour operator Friendly Planet Travel has announced the acquisition of insightCuba.
Friendly Planet Travel hopes the tie-up will help to bring some clarity to consumers over the legality of travel to Cuba.
Following the scrapping of cruises to the Caribbean nation, there is lingering confusion about what is and what isn’t permitted
Friendly Planet says the acquisition will help bring about ‘a unified voice to the certainty of legal travel to Cuba by Americans.’
"The importance of travel as a force of understanding and betterment in Cuba – ‘grassroots diplomacy’ – has never been as critical as it is right now, where sudden changes to U.S. policy have served only to confuse American citizens about their rights to visit," said Planet Travel founder and president Peggy Goldman.
Founded in 2000, insightCuba was the first Cuba specialist to be granted the original people-to-people license which allowed Americans to travel to Cuba legally.
President of insightCuba Tom Popper will continue to lead the organization.
Cuba welcomed a record 4.8 million visitors in 2018, which is 60% growth over the past five years.
"Travel to Cuba by Americans is legal, and there is demand for this incredible destination that cannot be undone. We are bullish on the future," Goldman added.
