Said Valere Tjolle, editor “There are enormous challenges for the tourism industry this year. Properly utilised, sustainable tourism can really assist all areas of the travel industry to overcome these challenges and take the big opportunities available. We’ve decided to do two reports so that we can concentrate on, and assist with, the specific needs of both the outbound and inbound sections of the industry.”

Both reports identify the ten specific challenges the tourism industry currently faces – The Economy, The environment, The climate, Food, Energy, Water, Culture, Social Interaction, Security and Health – explain the depth of the challenges and suggest opportunities and methods to take advantage of them.

The purpose is to assist every single company in the tourism business whether in the outbound travel or inbound hospitality sections to reap the benefits of sustainable tourism and understand and avoid the pitfalls.

“The fact is that sustainable tourism is one of the biggest and most powerful wealth-creating and wealth-distributing processes known. Yes, we currently face a number of challenges, but these challenges, properly examined, will, in turn lead to massive opportunities. It’s these opportunities that the reports will identify and it will provide methods of engaging with them and utilizing to their full potential.
