Go west, of course
A practicing psychotherapist between trips, Mikel Carmon’s Spiritrider Wagon Train Adventures offer something different for agents who can get up to 20% commissions.
“Increasingly, people are overwhelmed and tired. They tell me all the time how harried they are, how they have no energy and how they are overloaded with information,” said Ms Carmon.
Her wagon train adventures are a trip to the past along the Oregon Trail to “wide open places where you might not see anyone else,” she said.
Groups and individuals can be accommodated. The trips continue to the end of September.
A typical cost for a five-day trip is $1,079 which includes all meals and more. Ms Carmon said agents provide a healthy share of her bookings.
“All meals are catered. We tell people all they need to bring is a sleeping bag and a sense of humor,” said Ms Carmon.
She describes the trips as a wilderness experience, though creature comforts are also around. Wagons travel during the day. There are campfire sing-a-longs in the evening or walks or sightseeing.
The company has several package tours to places such as the historic Hole-in-the-Wall area and the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. Tours can also be customized.
The tours come with trained drivers. “It may look simple on television, but you’ve got to know what you’re doing. It’s really an art,” she said about wagon driving.
