Government apologises for weekend airport ‘chaos’
The biggest travel weekend of the year descended into ‘total chaos’ according to holidaymakers who endured two-hour-long queues waiting to show their Covid-19 documents at Heathrow Airport.
There were also ‘chaotic scenes’ at Stansted Airport. Crime and Policing Minister Kit Malthouse apologised for the delays.
"At Heathrow yesterday we had a technical issue with the e-gates where they went down for 90 minutes or so. That caused a problem and I’m very sorry about that, and I’m sorry for the people that were inconvenienced," he told Times Radio.
"I know Border Force are one of the frontline services that will be able to access more of this test and release."
