Government won’t require Covid tests for domestic flights
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has some good news for worried airline executives.
It has ruled out Covid tests for domestic flights for the time being.
Officials had been considering mandatory tests before taking any domestic flights, which has been strongly opposed by the airline industry.
Not only would it decimate any chance of a travel recovery but it would be unworkable, they said.
The White House met with airline executives on Friday.
The health agency won’t recommend domestic pre-flight testing now but it may revisit it if cases of the new Covid variants remain high.
"At this time, CDC is not recommending required point of departure testing for domestic travel," the CDC said.
"As part of our close monitoring of the pandemic, in particular the continued spread of variants, we will continue to review public health options for containing and mitigating spread of Covid-19 in the travel space."
It is still discouraging people by asking Americans not to take any unnecessary travel.
