Over the coming two years Chicago has an impressive schedule of hotel openings and developments leading up to US Travel Associations’ showcase of the city at International Pow Wow 2014:

InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile – August 2012

InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile has added 20 allergy-friendly rooms complete with hypoallergenic pillows and mattresses.

ACME Hotel – May 2012

Located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, within the heart of the city’s restaurant and nightlife hub, this new boutique hotel (Formerly a Comfort Inn & Suites) will offer hip design, a high-tech vibe and approachable accommodations. The hotel, the result of a $3 million plus renovation, is comprised of 130 rooms, including 25 suites. ACME Hotel will deliver the latest in tech-savvy accommodations featuring 46" LED TVs with easy Apple and HDMI connections. In addition, all suites come with Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin audio systems.

Ivy Hotel – June 2012

This brand new 15-story, 63-room boutique hotel is both luxurious and ecofriendly. The converted office building has undergone a handful of renovations to become a stylish and sustainable hotel. On the elegant side, guests enjoy Egyptian cotton sheets, sea salt soaking tubs, and flat screen televisions. For its green effort, the hotel boasts LED lighting, bamboo flooring, and an energy-efficient heating system.

UPDATE: The Sky Terrace at the Ivy Hotel – August 2012

The $28M Ivy Hotel was completed in June, but the cherry on top (so to speak) is the Sky Terrace al fresco dining area on the building’s roof. The recently opened rooftop bar will serve a contemporary seafood menu, feature high end cocktails and provide an incredible view of Lake Michigan.

2013

Langham Chicago Hotel – 2013

The landmark, riverfront Miles van der Rohe building will be transformed into a haven of European hospitality, with 330 spacious guest rooms; the award-winning, 9,000-square-foot Chuan Spa; and dining bound to rival Langham’s other Michelin Award-winning restaurants. The nineteen story, 180 room hotel is slated to open in the summer of ’13. Located in Chicago’s famed River North area, guests will be a short walk away from shopping on The Magnificent Mile and the always energetic nightlife of Hubbard Street.

Hyatt Regency McCormick Place – 2013

The Four Diamond AAA-rated hotel will get a considerable revamp with an $87 million expansion. Part of the original hotel plan, the Hyatt Regency will add a new 461-room guest tower. Plus the Hyatt’s existing 800 rooms – and the adjacent conference center – will receive a significant face lift.

Hyatt Place Chicago Downtown River North – 2013

Currently under construction, the 212 room hotel is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013 on Chicago’s bustling and nightlife heavy Hubbard Street.

Virgin Hotel Chicago – 2013

Eccentric billionaire and founder of Virgin Airlines, Sir Richard Branson, is bringing his new lifestyle brand to Chicago. Virgin Hotels will open a new location in the historic Dearborn Bank Building in the Loop. Specifics on design and amenities have been mum for now, but expect a stylish and elegant establishment fitting of its River North location. Construction began in May on the 250 room hotel, with a projected date of completion in Fall 2013.

Renaissance North Shore Hotel – 2013

Renaissance’s 22,000 square feet of meeting space will be the first to benefit from a $7.5 million total revamp of the North Shore hotel. The Northbrook Ballroom and the Greenery, which boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, and a deck, will receive complete makeovers, giving the hotel a more modern and welcoming feel. Renovations of guest rooms will top off the overhaul.

2014
