Great Rail Journeys launches new Scottish tour
As demand for holidays closer to home continues to soar, Great Rail Journeys has launched a new Scottish tour.
The Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands tour promises an epic journey without going overseas, unlocking Scotland’s rugged terrain and the historic cities of Edinburgh and Inverness.
"Scotland is leading the way for UK breaks at the moment We have seen a rise in popularity of rail holidays throughout the UK since the beginning of the year. People are continually looking for a getaway closer to home," said Julian Appleyard, Commercial Director of Great Rail Journeys.
"Tours including the West Highland line and in particular the Jacobite are proving to be particularly popular. Seats are rapidly booking up, so much so that we’ve just added our new Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands tour to meet demand."
Commencing in Edinburgh, the exclusive small group escorted tour includes a guided sightseeing walk discovering the many historic sites of the capital, before visiting the famous castle in Stirling, once the childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots.
Passengers will then board the Jacobite Steam Train in Fort William to experience the West Highland Line.
During the journey, the train climbs into the mountains surrounding Glenfinnan, a small-town famous as the rallying point for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s assault on the British throne.
It crosses the 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct which is an iconic structure immortalized in the Harry Potter films.
Guests will also visit Eilean Donan Castle before travelling to Aviemore.
Here they will join the Strathspey Steam Railway for a journey through Cairngorm National Park.
The Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands tour lasts eight days and costs from £1,595 per person, inclusive of seven nights’ hotel accommodation and meals, based on a 31 August 2021 departure.
