Gurassa takes top car rental role
Former Thomson Travel Group chief executive Charles Gurassa has become non-executive chairman of the parent company of car rental brands National and Alamo.
His appointment at Worldwide Excellerated Leasing, which runs National and Alamo owner-operator Vanguard Car Rental, came a day after he was named as chairman of soon to be floated Virgin Mobile.
Vanguard operates in more than 80 countries with almost 3,200 locations and a fleet of 350,000 vehicles. Vanguard has more than 145 locations in the UK with 35,000 vehicles.
Mr Gurassa, who also spent 10 years at British Airways responsible for its worldwide commercial operations, said: “The Vanguard rental business has great potential to expand globally. The business already has a very strong presence in North America and the UK and I see significant further opportunities to grow in Continental Europe and other regional markets.”
