Just days after Hawaii announced the number of dengue fever travel related cases had reached double figures, the state health department announced its 11th confirmed case this year.
The Hawaii Department of Health confirmed another case of dengue on Oahu.
The latest case is less than a week after the 10th case was reported.
That was also on Oahu.
So far, there have been 10 travel-related cases confirmed on Oahu.
The remaining case of dengue was on Maui.
“DOH teams have been deployed to conduct inspections and implement mosquito control measures in the affected area,” a DOH spokesperson said.
“The public is encouraged to follow best practices to help prevent local transmission.”
Dengue is transmitted through mosquito bites but is not endemic to Hawaii.
State officials are urging residents to take full precautions before their overseas travel and get clued up on the dengue risk and preventative measures.
Several countries – especially Pacific island nations – have recorded higher than usual numbers of dengue cases this year.
This includes the Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Samoa, Tonga, as well as the Philippines.
