Hawaii tourism just had its best ever month for visitor arrivals in July.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority released its preliminary data for the month, showing 835,417 arrivals, up 2.1% on July 2015.
The HTA said visitor spending also rose slightly by 1.5% to $1.4 billion.
"It’s inspiring to see the second half of 2016 start with a new all-time record for monthly visitor arrivals," said George Szigeti, HTA president and CEO.
Including July, 2016 year-to-date arrivals reached nearly 5.3 million visitors spending an estimated $9.15 billion.
Arrivals by air grew in July from its traditionally strong Western US market and most international markets, except for Japan and Canada, which declined.
Total air capacity in July was up slightly to 1.1 million seats.
"Sustained success in tourism is a team effort. Hawaii’s travel industry partners have been brilliant in consistently meeting the expectations of first-time and repeat visitors, both from the U.S. mainland and internationally," Szigeti added.
