Hawaiian Airlines’ recently approved non-stop service between Kona and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport will take off in time for Christmas.
The service, which was approved by the US Department of Transportation in May, begins on December 20, 2016.
"As Hawaii’s largest international market, it is clear Japanese travelers have chosen Hawaiian as their carrier of choice when visiting. We are excited to offer even more choices for service with a second flight option from Haneda, the option to fly nonstop to Kona, and our new nonstop daily service from Narita launching later this month," said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s CEO.
The route will operate three times a week and ticket sales are now live.
The airline said it will deploy wide bodied Airbus A330-200 aircraft, seating 294 passengers on the route.
Hawaiian is also adding a second frequency of four times weekly flights on its Honolulu-Haneda route beginning the following day, December 21.
US authorities are still weighing up applications from four other US carriers for daytime slots to serve Tokyo Haneda from the US mainland.
