The opening of Hawaii’s first completely smoke-free hotel set for November 20 is a trend, hoteliers say.
Said Bitsy Kelley, director of brand development, OHANA Reef Lanai Hotel: “Over the last few years, we have noticed a decreasing demand for smoking rooms and an increasing sensitivity to any odor or exposure to cigarette smoke.”
The 110-room OHANA Reef Lanai is in Waikiki.
The cost of the three-month conversion was not disclosed.
The smoke-free policy even extends to Buzz’s Steakhouse, which operates a bar and restaurant on the lobby level. But there’s some consolation for smokers. OHANA’s dozen other properties in Hawaii still have smoking rooms.
