Heathrow-Amritsar flights launch
Jet Airways is to become the only airline to serve India’s northern city of Amritsar from Heathrow.
The independent Indian carrier is to run three flights a week from August 4 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It will be the airline’s fourth destination from London.
Jet Airways is to use a 226-seat Airbus A330-200 on the route in a two-class configuration including a 30-seat Premiere Class.
Situated in the state of Punjab, Amritsar is home to the Golden Temple in the heart of the city’s old town.
The airline’s UK and Ireland general manager Emmanuel Menu said: “We’re always looking to expand our route options here in the UK and Amritsar was the next logical move for us. Not only is there a growing demand amongst the Punjab/Sikh communities in Britain to travel to Amritsar, but the city is also fast gaining popularity as a tourist destination in India.”
