Hertz has entered into a strategic partnership with South America’s largest home grown rental car company Localiza.

The tie-up was first announced late last year and now has full approval by Brazil’s competition watchdog CADE.

Hertz announced it has finalized the sale of its Brazil car rental and leasing assets to Localiza.

Going forward, both have inked a referral and brand cooperation agreement which will include sharing of technology, customer service and operational functions and information.

"We are proud to partner with Localiza, with whom we share similar values of innovation and customer excellence. This agreement brings together two leading brands and an enhanced product and service offering for our respective customers as they travel the world," said Kathryn V. Marinello, president and CEO, Hertz.

Localiza customers traveling beyond South America will be automatically connected to Hertz reservation channels.

In some markets within the US, especially airport locations with flights from Brazil, car rental facilities will display ‘Localiza-Hertz’ joint branding.

Conversely Hertz will funnel customers traveling to Brazil through the Localiza network.

"We are very motivated by the start of this long-term strategic partnership that represents a new milestone for the development of the sector," said Eugenio Mattar, CEO of Localiza.
