Hike in lost luggage insurance claims
Insurance claims for lost airline luggage has almost doubled in the first six months of this year, according to Insureandgo.
It says it received 2,094 claims from January to June – up 85% on the same six months in 2006.
Insureandgo managing director Perry Wilson said: “We have seen an enormous rise in claims for lost luggage.
“This is clearly a major problem for our customers and we urge the airline and airports industry to improve their performance in this area.
“With the summer holiday season now in full swing, we can unfortunately expect more families’ holidays to be ruined by lost baggage.”
He said figures from the Association of European Airlines (AEA), which show an increase of 22%, do not include budget airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair.
InsureandGo’s claims come from customers flying with both scheduled and budget airlines.
