Holidaymakers warned of further ferry blockades at Calais

Monday, 6 July 20153 min read

Holidaymakers heading to France have been warned of another blockade at Calais by French ferry workers from as early as tomorrow.

Britain’s Freight Transport Association confirmed: "Industrial action was suspended on Thursday but further walk-outs are threatened from next Tuesday."

The dispute has been caused by 600 threatened job losses caused by the disposal by Eurotunnel of their ferry arm MyFerryLink.

Eurotunnel services were delayed on Friday after 150 migrants entered restricted areas on the French side of the Channel Tunnel.

Lorry drivers were left queueing on the M20 as officials worked to remove the migrants.

A spokesman for Eurotunnel called for ‘immediate action’ from the authorities to protect the tunnel after striking ferry workers blockaded the port in Calais, reports the Daily Mail.

The situation has been made worse by a series of strikes by French ferry workers that have led to gridlock on both sides of the Channel as the port of Calais and the Channel Tunnel have been blockaded.

The French Government has been accused of ‘turning a blind eye’ to the blockade by 600 militant French ferry workers.

School trip operators are urging British MPs, the European Union, and French authorities to take immediate action over the wildcat strikes in Calais.
