Homeaway hits a million – now more rooms than the four biggest hotel groups
Families and groups have access to nearly three million rooms, more than the world’s four largest hotel companies have combined.
Homeaway, the peer-to-peer letting group has announced its one millionth live holiday home listing.
Launched in 2006 with 60,000 holiday homes in 90 countries, HomeAway now offers holiday home listings in 190 countries around the world. In 2013, owners and property managers collectively earned more than US$11 billion in rental revenue and travellers booked more than 144 million room nights.
Europe accounts for almost half of the global inventory listed with HomeAway, which highlights the dynamism of the continent on the holiday home rental market.
In 2013, HomeAway’s UK websites generated more than US$945 million rental revenue to owners and property managers who listed their properties. Travellers looking for their holiday rental on the HomeAway UK websites booked more than 14.2 million room nights*.
HomeAway’s one millionth live holiday home listing is owned by Betsy Banks Saul and located in Crystal Beach, Fla., U.S.A. The rental sits on a private, dolphin-spotting waterfront location on the Gulf of Mexico, just outside holiday hot spot Clearwater, Fla. Betsy started renting to share the happiness the home provides her family to those seeking their own seaside escape. Those looking to book a stay in the millionth listing can do so by clicking this link.
HomeAway properties cover every type of location, including ocean front, lake front, downtown, mountain, and many more. Travellers seeking off the beaten path experiences can find their dream accommodation with properties ranging from cabooses to castles, yurts to yachts, tipis to treehouses and even an aeroplane.
