Hong Kong flights cancelled due to tropical storm
Scores of flights to and from Hong Kong have been cancelled due to a tropical storm, which is sweeping across southern China.
Cathay Pacific cancelled most of its flights into and out of Hong Kong overnight, including flights to and from London. It will not operate flights to and from Heathrow until late this afternoon.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic flights to and from Hong Kong appear to be operating normally.
Large areas of southern China, including Shanghai, remain on emergency alert due to a battering by typhoon Nida, which hit Hong Kong yesterday with strong winds and torrential rain.
The storm is reported to be losing strength as it travels across the mainland towards Guangzhou and Guangdong province, but authorities say it could still bring severe flooding.
In Hong Kong, hundreds of people are understood to have taken refuge in government shelters overnight, but officials ended their rainstorm alert at midday on Tuesday.
