Housekeepers fear jobs under threat with new hotel cleaning protocols
New hotel cleaning protocols are straining relations between hotels and their housekeeping staff. New guidelines restricting room cleaning to when a guest checks out is being used to make housekeepers work harder for less hours, workers and unions say.
Unions and hotel cleaners also say the new protocols, requiring less frequent cleaning of rooms, is being used as a way to cut both wages and possibly jobs.
