Hurricane Milton: Florida air travel update

Thursday, 10 Oct, 2024 0

Millions of Floridians woke up to no power while four people were confirmed dead as Hurricane Milton barrels eastward from Florida’s Gulf Coast.

It is estimated at three million people have power outages.

The deaths occurred in St Lucie County due to multiple tornados.

The recovery is in full swing in west and central Florida but Florida tourism is mostly at a standstill.

Orlando International Airport remained closed Thursday morning and the area’s biggest theme parks are closed.

There have been over 3,000 flights canceled in total.

“Emergency crews remained onsite overnight, and damage assessment will start taking place now. Once information becomes available about a specific time that commercial operations will resume, we’ll be sure to post about it,” Orlando Airport posted on X.

Other Orlando area airports Sanford and Melbourne remain closed also, while Tampa International Airport expects to reopen Friday.

Also closed are Daytona Beach, Sarasota and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.

There have been cancelations across multiple airports from Jacksonville to Miami although both these airports are currently operating.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is also open.

All airports, even those currently operating, are urging travelers to check latest transport and road updates and their current flight status before heading to the airport.
