The International Association of Golf Tour Operators has announced the 2017 Asia Golf Tourism Convention will be Asia’s largest-ever golf tourism event yet.
The event, branded ‘AGTC on the Beach,’ has already broken records for the number of golf tour operators scheduled to attend the 7-13 May event in Danang, Vietnam.
"With two months to go, already more than 240 golf tour operators from 36 countries have registered to attend AGTC. This clearly shows the appeal of Danang as one of Asia’s newest and most exciting golf destinations," said IAGTO chief executive Peter Walton.
Nearly two-thirds of confirmed tour operator attendees hail from Asia with a sizeable contingent from both Korea and China.
There are 36 Vietnam based delegates attending including Montgomerie Links Danang Golf Club, Ba Na Hills Golf Club, and Laguna Golf Lang Co.
As host city for AGTC this year, Danang Department of Tourism hopes to leverage the exposure to become a major player in Asian golf tourism.
IAGTO also presented a golf tourism strategy roadmap for Danang for the Department of Tourism which will be formalised at AGTC.
"A carefully laid out strategy is essential in order to convert the high level of interest in Danang into new business, ensuring that the experience of the golf visitor is maintained at the highest level and that the growth is sustainable," Walton said.
Danang expects to boost tourism receipts by US$20 million per year as a direct result of the convention
AGTC comprises three days of business meetings followed by three days of tour operator visits to the golf courses and hotels of Vietnam’s Central Coast region to enable them sell the destination to golf travellers.
