Iberia says it will scrap pregnancy tests for new employees following a €25,000 fine for discrimination.
The airline issued a statement to say the test ‘was only done to guarantee women did not face any risks’, and denied it rejected pregnant women for jobs.
But the airline faced a social media backlash, and was forced to defend many negative comments on Twitter, saying it ‘never ceased to hire a woman because she was pregnant if she met the requirements for the position’.
Iberia said it had contracted five women who were expecting a baby last year to different roles and since the beginning of 2016 it has moved 60 female employees to alternative roles to fit in with their pregnancies.
