IHG loyalty card error takes guests to phone sex line

Monday, 26 October 20153 min read
Hotel loyalty guests at InterContinental Hotel Group are recipients of a surprising ‘perk’ the company didn’t bargain for.
When trying to contact IHG’s Spire Elite Reward Program helpline, US members are put through to a phone sex line due to a mistake on the back of their membership card.
Instead of the ‘1-844’ prefix normally used to call the helpline, membership cards are printed with a ‘1-800’ number by mistake which connects with ‘America’s hottest’ phone sex line.
It was first brought to the attention by a IHG member who alerted the company.
He was told IHG were aware of the mistake but ‘had made the decision not to alert members’ according to Consumerist.com.
After media attention and a flood of comments on social media, IHG said they emailed members last month about the unfortunate typo and new cards would be issued soon.
