IHG signs four Holiday Inn hotels in India
InterContinental Hotels Group has agreed a management contract to bring four new Holiday Inn branded properties to India.
The deal with Lotus Trans Travel Private Limited will see the launch of Holiday Inn Bodhgaya, Holiday Inn Kushinagar, Holiday Inn Gorakhpur and Holiday Inn Shravasti from 2020 to 2023.
Holiday Inn Gorakhpur will be the sole new build while the other three hotels will be refurbished and rebranded.
The four destinations are main pilgrimage centres of India’s Buddhist tourism circuit.
It makes IHG the first international hospitality firm with a presence on the circuit.
"We are excited to be collaborating with Lotus Trans Travel Private Limited, which has a strong presence and a deep market understanding of Buddhist destinations in India. This signing adds to the rapidly growing presence of our well-recognised Holiday Inn brand across the country," said Sudeep Jain, IHG’s development VP for South West Asia.
"The Holiday Inn brand family is IHG’s growth engine in India, and this agreement is in line with our development strategy."
"The Buddhist circuit is an important landmark for religious tourism and is being further established, as a result of the Government’s efforts to develop and promote the route. This presents a great opportunity for us."
Karan Rai, director of Lotus Trans Travel Private Limited, says there is a big need for quality branded accommodation options on the Buddhist tourism circuit.
