Travellers are being told not to visit major cities in Turkey unless absolutely necessary following a new terror warning from The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The FCO warns that there is a risk of imminent attacks in Istanbul and Ankara, despite the fact that anti-terror police in Turkey yesterday rounded up several suspected terrorists. According to the Daily Mail, authorities believe there may be as many as 1,000 Al-Qa’eda-trained militants hiding in the country. The FCO website, at www.fco.gov.uk/travel, warns: “We have information to suggest that further attacks may be imminent in Istanbul and Ankara. We urge you to be vigilant in all parts of the country, and especially in the vicinity of potential terrorist targets.”
