VESTAS both announce Gopinath Parayil of The Blue Yonder as global coordinator and new hotel award category award
Gopinath Parayil, the Founder and Chief Executive of The Blue Yonder, principal of the Nila Foundation and joint creator of the Responsible Tourism Networking events is to be global coordinator of the Vision Destinet European Sustainable Tourism Awards, (VESTAS) which are soon to take on a global dimension.
The VESTAS have also announced changes to their hotel categories which are to be divided into a section for hotels with up to 50 rooms and another for hotels with more than 50 rooms.
This move will enable the awards to compare like with like when judging takes place later this year.
A facebook group has been set up for the awards: “European Sustainable Tourism Awards by Vision and Destinet”
A linkedin business group is also now available: “European Sustainable Tourism Awards by Vision and Destinet”
Details of the awards are also available at DESTINET
Vision on Sustainable Tourism in partnership with the DestiNet Sustainable Tourism Information and Communications Portal, launched the awards at this year’s ITB Berlin.
The awards will initially be based on four territorial areas in Europe: Coastal, Urban, Rural, Protected.
In each area interested stakeholders can enter places, products or services in the following categories:
- Best Destination (villages, towns, cities and county-level NUTS III-V)
- Best Tour Package
- Best Carrier (air, rail, ship)
- Best Hotel
Entries will be judged by their contribution to the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.
A rusty nail award for those enterprises and services who are clearly unsustainable will also be given for each category.
