Indian Treats for 30,000 Visitors to Sydney Travel XPO
Special report by TravelMole lifestyle reporter – Thomas E. King
More than 30,000 visitors seeking the latest travel deals as well as detailed information on destinations around the world passed through the turnstiles at the Holiday & Travel XPO Sydney in mid March.
An annual event organised by Expertise Events and sponsored by Getaway, the Sun Herald and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers, Globus, Gulf Air, Ford, Travel & Leisure and the Jetset Travelworld Group, the XPO is the largest consumer travel show in Sydney.
As usual, the exhibition organised by India Tourism placed emphasis on culture with a stylish display of Indian art highlighted with a miniature marble fountain.
India Tourism staff members were kept busy throughout the two-day event providing tourism literature and answering a multitude of questions about travel to and through India.
“Australian travellers are becoming more knowledgeable about India. There was a much broader range of enquiries about destinations ranging from Rajasthan, Kerala and Delhi/Agra/Jaipur to Darjeeling and even Sikkim”, said Ms Meeta Dubey, Information Assistant, India Tourism, Sydney.
Screening sessions for several new videos about India were well attended while a highlight of the XPO was an Indian dance presentation coordinated by the Nurpur Dance Group in Sydney.
Miss Tarneet Kaur received a very enthusiastic reception for her solo Bollywood dance performance. Dancing since the age of three, the now 8-year-old dance veteran will represent all of Australia at the upcoming World Bollywood Dance Competition in New Jersey.
