IndiGo promises to clear all pending refunds by next month
India’s largest carrier IndiGo has pledged to complete all pending ticket refunds by the end of January 2021.
It has already processed INR10 billion (US$ 135 million) worth of credit shell refunds which represents about 90% of all cancelled tickets.
"As our incoming cash flow dried up, we were unable to immediately process refunds. However, with the resumption of operations, our priority has been to refund the credit shell amounts in an expedited manner," said IndiGo CEO, Ronojoy Dutta.
The airline resumed domestic flight services in late May after a nationwide two-month lockdown.
When flights resumed, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation allowed airlines to issue credit shells in lieu of immediate refunds.
If credits are not used by customers by 31 March 2021, airlines must process refunds.
"We are pleased to commit to disbursing the full 100% credit shell payments latest by 31 January, 2021. We would like to thank all our customers who stood by us for their patience and understanding," Dutta added.
