Indonesia announces visa-free entry for another 84 countries

Indonesia will offer visa-free travel for nationals of another 84 countries, in an effort to boost inbound tourism.
Among the latest countries to be granted visa waiver status is key market Australia.
Relations with Indonesia’s nearest neighbour have been strained for some time but are finally on the mend.
Other countries going visa-free include Brazil, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mauritius and Paraguay.
However Indonesia’s coordinating minister for maritime affairs, Rizal Ramli refuted earlier reports that Israel had been added.
Tourism officials said a jump of 19% in tourist arrivals was recorded after 47 more countries went visa-free in October this year.
"Offering visa-free travel is one of the easiest ways to boost tourist numbers," said tourism minister Arief Yahya.
The ministry has a strategic plan to boost tourist arrivals to up to 20 million by 2019, which is double the expected number for this year.
To keep pace with that, tourism employment would likely grow from the current three million to seven million within five years, Ramli said.
