Mexican airline Interjet said it plans to strike an alliance partnership with China’s Hainan Airlines later this year to lure more Asian tourists.
The airline says talks have commenced.
"Mexico’s economic development will not slow down, and we are going to further connect with the world through business and tourism," said Interjet director general Jose Luis Garza.
The catalyst is Hainan’s launch of Beijing-Mexico City flights which began last month.
Interjet flew three million passengers on its international routes last year, mostly to North America, which represents growth of 35% from 2016.
Mexico’s third largest carrier sees similar growth prospects in Asia.
Its current international route network includes Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Peru and the US.
