Italian ATC staff to strike on Tuesday

A four-hour strike tomorrow (Tuesday) by Italian air traffic controllers is expected to cause some flight delays and cancellations.

Workers are due to walk out between noon and 4pm.

Alitalia has cancelled some services on Tuesday, as well as some flights late on Monday and early on Wednesday, the airline said on its website.

It said: "Alitalia has taken special measures to mitigate customer inconvenience by operating bigger aircraft on domestic and international routes, in order to rebook passengers affected by cancellations onto the first available flights on the same day: more than half of the involved travellers will fly on the same 25 February."

BA and easyJet have told passengers to check their websites for the latest information.

BA said: "We recognise the uncertainty that the strike may be causing customers and have introduced flexible rebooking options."

EasyJet said it expects ‘some disruption’.

The strike had been planned to last for 24 hours, but Italian authorities said the length of action was deemed unconstitutional.
