JAL to restart nonstop San Diego flights

Saturday, 13 Jan, 2021 0

Japan Airlines will return to San Diego after a long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

JAL will return to San Diego on 2 March, with a schedule of three flights a week.

Flights out of San Diego depart on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays initially until 15 April.

JAL hasn’t given any details of service beyond mid-April.

Prior to the global pandemic, JAL operated the route with daily flights.

The San Diego Tourism Authority said it was ‘thrilled to have Japan Airlines resume its service between Tokyo and San Diego.’

"Japan is the fifth-largest overseas market for visitors to San Diego, and many San Diego-based companies have strong business ties to Japan," said Julie Coker, President of the Tourism Authority.

It has proved to be popular with both leisure and business travelers.

JAL’s announcement came the same day as the US said it would mandate proof of a negative Covid-19 test for all international inbound passengers.

This takes effect on 26 January.
