Japan mulling partial reopening for business travellers

Tuesday, 11 Jun, 2020 0

Japan may soon start accepting international travellers but with strict limits on numbers and only from selected countries.

Japan may allow up to 250 foreign travellers each day from Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam, starting this summer, according to local press.

It will initially start by only allowing business travellers in to the country.

Exactly how it will be implemented hasn’t been disclosed and is still being discussed by the government taskforce.

This includes whether travellers will have freedom to travel around Japan or whether they will be restricted to certain cities and prefectures.

These countries were chosen as they have the virus under control and have strong diplomatic ties with Japan.

It could be expanded to other nations such as China and South Korea.

Japan currently has an entry ban imposed on more than 100 countries and regions.
