Japan tourism hit by another sharp dip in Korean tourist arrivals
Japan posted its largest percentage fall in tourist arrivals in more than seven years in October, as tourist arrivals from South Korea continue to plunge.
Numbers were down 5.5% last month.
This is despite the hosting of the Rugby World Cup, although much of the positive effects were wiped out after Typhoon Hagibis devastated much of the country.
The Japan Tourism Agency said there were nearly 2,5 million visitors in October, down from 2.6 million last year.
The fall in numbers is also attributed to the ongoing row with South Korea. The inbound market from South Korea suffered its biggest fall yet, down 65.5%.
It followed a 58% decline in September.
It marks a setback for the Japan government which is working hard to achieve a target of 40 million foreign tourist arrivals by 2020.
