JetBlue ends AA alliance, focuses on Spirit merger

JetBlue won’t appeal the decision to block its Northeast airline alliance with American Airlines.
It ‘made the difficult decision not to appeal and has instead initiated the termination of the NEA.’
“We strongly disagree with the court’s ruling and stand behind the procompetitive impact of the airline alliance,” JetBlue said.
It decided not t appeal in order to focus on its takeover of Spirit Airlines.
American Airlines said it will still appeal the NEA ruling.
JetBlue won shareholder support to acquire Spirit last year after a bidding war with Frontier Airlines.
Again, the Justice Department sued to block this deal.
“We will now turn even more focus to our proposed combination with Spirit.”
“It is the best and most effective opportunity to truly transform the competitive landscape in the U.S.”
“The DOJ should reconsider and support our plan to bring a national low-fare competitor to the Big Four.”
