JetBlue plans double daily Puerto Rico flights to DC

JetBlue plans to expand Puerto Rico flights to Washington DC.

It has applied for slot exemptions to operate a second daily nonstop flight between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico.

It comes following the passing of the FAA Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2024 allowing for slot exemptions for longer flights to and from DCA.

The application is part of JetBlue’s broader initiative to increase connectivity to and from Puerto Rico, with more domestic and international destinations.

Additionally, adding a second daily flight on the route would support further connectivity to the U.S. Virgin Islands, including both St. Thomas and new service to St. Croix set to launch in December.

“JetBlue looks forward to submitting our application to enhance the connection between Reagan National and our focus city, San Juan,” said Robert Land, JetBlue’s head of government affairs and associate general counsel.

JetBlue has been offering Puerto Rico flights since 2012.

The airline employs more than 370 crewmembers in Puerto Rico

JetBlue also flies out of Aguadilla and Ponce, and will operate flights to 18 different destinations from the three Puerto Rico airports by the end of 2024.

The airline will average 46 Puerto Rico flights this upcoming winter.
