Jobs on the line in Travel 2/4 shake-up
Jobs are under threat at Travel 2/Travel 4 as the operator’s new US owner Cendant consolidates offices.
And in a senior management shake-up co-founders and joint managing directors Stuart Harvey and Graham Moss, are to stand down to take on consultancy roles with the business until the end of the year. They founded the company as a consolidator in 1982 and it has expanded to become a leading trade-only worldwide air fare and ground product operator.
The company will be headed by new managing director Shaun Hinds, previously with Alamo and First Call, who was brought in by Cendant Travel Distribution Services as integration director following the purchase last autumn.
Travel 2/4 is to relocate all its operations functions from London and Manchester to a new customer centre in Glasgow, where the company also has an existing office. The new centre is due to be fully operational by 1 November.
The Manchester office will close and affected staff from both London and Manchester will be offered relocation to Glasgow, redeployment in another Caendant UK company or redundancy.
Mr Hinds told TravelMole that 190 employees, mainling in reservations, ticketing and adminsitration, would be affected by the changes.
He said that those who opt to take redendancy would be treated fairly and offered “attractive packages”. A 90-day staff consultation process is due to start in the next two weeks.
The London head office in Highgate will remain covering functions such as marketing, supplier relations and IT.
The company, which carries more than 220,000 passengers a year, employs 460 staff around the UK.
Mr Hinds, who has been with Cendant since 2002, said: “By centralising our reservations functions, we will offer a much more consistent customer experience. We will provide agents with the products they need at the most competitive rates and will utilise state-of-the-art technology to help them manage their businesses more efficiently.”
