One of Ireland’s best-known travel companies, Joe Walsh Tours, has fallen victim to the Covid pandemic.

According to the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR) Joe Walsh Pilgrimtours Ltd, was ‘unable to fulfil its obligations to customers’ and has been force to close.

The company had been in business for 60 years and traded under various brands including Joe Walsh Tours

"The Commission operates a consumer protection scheme and, if you find you are out of pocket, you may be covered by this scheme," the CAR said.

It also operates a Refund Credit Note Scheme.

Before the pandemic, it also had offices the UK and the US and had a workforce of about 100 people.

That had reduced to about 25 at the time of its demise.

As well as packages and pilgrimage tours to Lourdes, it also had a sports travel brand.

It was still family owned and run by Joe Walsh’s sons.

"Joe Walsh Pilgrimtours Ltd. did everything they could to see themselves and their customers through the pandemic," the company said.

"Travel protocols in Ireland are the most restrictive in Europe, putting Irish travel companies at a disadvantage to their European counterparts."
