Kane Pirie calls for break on national insurance contributions
Vivid Travel founder and managing director Kane Pirie is calling on the Government to help save jobs by agreeing to a break on national insurance contributions.
Pirie said: "The unemployment tsunami is as predictable as the Covid-19 surge was, if not more so.
"This time Government must be more decisive so they can act before the worst of the numbers manifest, not after.
"Over nine million people are furloughed. Even assuming two thirds of them return to work that will still result in record breaking unemployment of over 4.5 million.
"Tax breaks and incentives of all shapes and sizes are being pre-trailed. But if the priority is job preservation why complicate it?
"We are calling on Government to suspend Employers national insurance contributions until the end of 2021. If not for all sectors, then at least for those hit hardest including leisure and hospitality.
"In the post Covid-19 world the location of jobs is fluid. Anyone can now work from anywhere. The taxing of employment makes no sense. It is a disincentive.
"In contrast, suspending employers’ national insurance contributions now would certainly reduce the numbers of people made redundant in the UK and moving onto benefits. It would pay for itself and then some. Come on Boris, give us a break."
