The family of a man who allegedly jumped to his death from a cruise ship have disputed the claim and intend to prove it in court.
The family of Bernardo Elbaz said an altercation took place with crew members on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Sea ship and he was subject to disparaging anti-gay remarks.
"Royal Caribbean is saying this was a domestic dispute and a suicide. It was anything but that," said Mike Winkleman, the Elbaz’ family lawyer.
Winkleman said Elbaz and his husband were subject to anti-gay comments throughout the cruise.
"It’s my understanding that there were several different occasions when crew members made anti-gay remarks against this legally married couple."
Royal Caribbean confirmed crew members were call to Elbaz’ stateroom but said: "Our staff did not have a physical altercation with the guest and were unable to prevent his jumping from the stateroom balcony."
The Elbaz family is considering taking legal action against the cruise line.
